Product Description

Mia Griffin's dark humor and quirky looks don't fit the mold of most PK's. Knowing the twisted and sometimes alarming secrets of church members generates more enemies than friends. But, as long as her free thinking best friend is by her side, Mia can laugh her way through anything. Mia's young faith will be tested when she suffers the greatest betrayal imaginable. As she begins to ask hard questions you will be astounded by the answers and perhaps learn something about the tests that God brings us through.

A page turner!5
After the first few pages I could tell this book was different, better written than most books. After the first chapter I went to bed, all I could think about was this book.

I started reading it the next day in between laundry, dishes, and homework (I'm a stay at home mom/FT online college student). It was SO funny! It's been a long time since a book has made me laugh out loud or even smile, and I was doing both and enjoying every moment!

About dinner time there was a major twist. My husband came home to find me bawling over dinner. He was sure something major happened, but no I was just really into this book. I finished the book within 24 hours, it was easy to read, and every page left me wanting to read the next.

I enjoyed this book, and I think it is great for teens and grownups alike. The main character is a preacher's daughter, and boy is she a character!

If you want a great book you can't put down, pick this one! There are twists and turns you won't see coming. You'll love the characters and actually feel like you are right there with them. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll see the inner workings of being a preacher's kid!

thought provoking novel dealing with some intense issues3
This review is hard for me to write because I have mixed emotions about the book. Which does not mean that I didn't like it. First, I will start by saying, this book is well-written, has an engaging story line and some very real and dynamic characters. Centered around an insecure, and perhaps even slightly rebellious, teenager who struggles to find her place in the often shallow and hypocritical "religious" circle, this book addresses some very tough issues, (infidelity, drug-use, peer pressure, homosexuality, new age philosophy) that many of today's children face, from a biblical perspective. However, because of the issues discussed in the book, parents should be involved in the reading and should take care that their child/student is emotionally able to hear about these things. And be prepared, this book will lead to some lengthy discussions, so parents will want to make sure they have a firm grip on what they feel about all of these issues before they attempt to discuss them with their children.

Positive:
1. Scripture is presented through out the book
2. Clear biblical arguments are given for various positions on the various issues presented in the book
3. The sense of family unity is very strong and the adult figures (Mia's parents) are very strong role models.
4. There is strong emphasis on authentic Christianity and not merely religious actions--this is seen through out Mia's struggles.
5. This book is culturally relevant to some (those who have been exposed to some of the issues addressed.)

Negatives: (could also be positives, depending on your audience.)
1. Some of the language is rough and may be inappropriate for some children.
2. As this book deals with issues like infidelity, homosexuality, STD's, drug-use, ect, students who have not yet "had the talk" should probably not read it.

Overall, I would recommend this book to students who deal with these issues but would caution parents to read the book prior to allowing their child to read it. For most families, I think this book is best for older students.

Discussion questions are provided at the end.

You'll want your teen reading this!5
From the very beginning I knew I was in for a treat! Not only is Preacher's Kids excellently written, it is not a boring read. You'll be sucked in from the moment Mia's phone starts ringing Sponge Bob's theme song and you won't want to put the book down until your done! I laughed and I cried while reading this book; a feat that doesn't happen often. The messages are clear and real, a great book for junior high kids and up!
